ASME B5.9-1967 (R2014) - Spindle Noses
The current specification is intended for spindle nose designs intended for installation on engine lathes, tool room lathes, turret lathes, and automatic lathes, and can be effectively employed on various other machinery where chucks or jigs require precise and stable mounting on rotating spindles. The tables contain comprehensive dimensions for all sizes and configurations of spindle noses, along with the corresponding mating parts of chucks, face plates, and jigs. Furthermore, the dimensions for gauges necessary to verify critical dimensions on the spindle noses and the backs of chucks, face plates, and jigs are provided to facilitate the interchangeability of components from different manufacturers. The "S" suffix in the schedule number is employed to distinguish B36.19M piping from B36.10M piping. ANSI/ASME B36.10M encompasses additional pipe wall thicknesses that are also commonly available in stainless steel. It is the intention that deviations from this specification should not be acknowledged going forward. Nonetheless, in applications where design, engineering, and manufacturing conditions allow for some flexibility, the adoption of diameters listed in the table is encouraged.
